Today, staff from Omni Hotels & Resorts and the Northern Texas PGA (NTPGA) celebrated the five recipients of the inaugural Fore Frisco scholarships. Layla Baker, Sa’Niyha Coleman, Marie Hampton, Joel Lim and Jalen Randle each received a $20,000 college scholarship funded by Omni Hotels & Resorts, and a breakfast hosted at the Omni PGA Frisco Resort & Spa was held in their honor.

Fore Frisco is a new scholarship endeavor between Omni Hotels & Resorts and the NTPGA Foundation that began in the 2024-25 school year. The program aims to help need-based Frisco ISD students with consideration for their academic performance, extracurricular activities, community involvement and financial need. Fore Frisco currently involves two FISD high schools – Lone Star and Panther Creek – and introduces students to golf and the life lessons of discipline, honor and integrity that are central to the game.

“We’re honored to partner with the NTPGA Foundation in its meaningful work to give back to our local community through scholarship opportunities,” says Kurt Alexander, President of Omni Hotels & Resorts. “Golf has a remarkable way of bringing people together and making a difference, and there’s no greater purpose than helping young individuals pursue their aspirations and build meaningful futures.”

Forty-two students participated in a five-week program and learned the fundamentals of golf—driving, chipping, putting—taught by PGA Professionals at The Ronny Golf Park. In addition to learning golf skills, students gained insight into career opportunities in hospitality at Omni Hotels & Resorts as well as careers in golf. Upon completion of the program, eligible students could apply for a scholarship.

“We were excited to get a scholarship program like this started with Frisco ISD this year. And, we could not have a better partner than the team with Omni Hotels & Resorts,” said Mark Harrison, CEO of the Northern Texas PGA. “We had great support from both flagship high schools, their staff and the Omni team. I also know that the five students who received the inaugural scholarships are going to head to college and impress us over these next few years. The future is bright not only for them but also this program.”

“With the Jerry J. Ransom Northern Texas PGA Golf House and our campus located in Frisco, we believe it is our responsibility to give back to the community we call home. From offering scholarships to high school students and employing FISD students at The Ronny Golf Park to providing internships that introduce former students to careers in golf, our commitment to local youth runs deep. We’re also proud to host multiple PGA HOPE programs in Frisco, supporting our military and veterans through the game we love,” said Harrison.

Ewing Automotive NTPGA Junior Tour to PGA Professional: Spencer Dillard 's Journey to Success

Spencer Dillard’s rise from a young golfer to a devoted PGA of America Golf Professional is a story of passion and purpose. His love for the game began when he was gifted a Tiger Wood’s golf video game as a kid. Spencer, who is now an Assistant Golf Professional at Preston Trail Golf Club, reflects on a journey shaped by the Ewing Automotive NTPGA Junior Tour.

Spencer’s golfing journey began at the age of seven when his parents enrolled him in a small golf camp in McKinney, Texas. A year later, he discovered the Ewing Automotive NTPGA Junior Tour and started competing in tournaments. These early experiences helped him develop both his skills and excitement for the game.

Spencer’s first experience on the junior tour was memorable. “I think I shot 72 for my very first [Prep Tour] event,” Dillard shares. “By the end of that year, I shot a 46. I was so happy to go from shooting a 72 for nine holes to [shooting] in the 40s.”

“I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into,” Dillard said. “I was just like yeah, I’ll go try it out.”

And in 2015, he headed to Huntsville. During his time in Sam Houston State University’s PGA Golf Management Program, Spencer's perspective of the industry expanded. The program’s blend of networking opportunities and mentorship prepared him for life as a PGA Professional. He was able to explore many internships through the program which led to gaining more hands-on experience in the industry.

“I completed an internship in New York, which was a transformative experience for me,” Dillard explained. “I had a great PGA professional there, Rob Labritz. He kind of paved the way for me and showed me what it is to be a club professional.”

Today, our Section was selected as the 2025 Herb Graffis Award recipient!

The award is given annually to one of the 41 PGA of America Sections for tireless dedication to growing the game of golf and furthering player-development programming in the community. Thank you to all of our PGA of America Golf Professionals who are involved in so many of our Foundation programs, helping us to impact lives in the communities we serve in North Texas!

Led by President Cameron Doan, PGA, and Executive Director Kelly Gilley, PGA, the Section is backed by a membership of more than 1,000 PGA of America Golf Professionals who are employed at more than 300 facilities. The Section’s mission is to promote the enjoyment and involvement in the game of golf and to contribute to its growth by providing services to golf professionals and the golf industry. The NTPGA’s success is fueled by the Northern Texas PGA Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt organization dedicated to promoting and growing the game of golf among diverse groups of kids in North Texas, and instilling in them the positive, character-developing traits for which the game is known. Annually, approximately 10,000 children and their families are impacted through the Foundation’s full circle of programs and services. Today, based on the three key pillars of the PGA of America REACH Foundation—Youth, Military, Diverse populations—as well as pillars for college scholarships, internships and inclusion, the Foundation reaches a greater audience to promote and grow the game. The centerpiece of the Foundation’s golf programming is the Ronny Golf Park, a first-of-its-kind facility that features a two-acre, lighted golf park made entirely of fully synthetic turf. It can be enjoyed rain or shine, day or night. It is designed with junior golfers in mind, and led by the Section’s PGA-led staff, who offer a variety of programs for children ages 3-14.

The Section will be formally recognized again later this year when the PGA of America hosts its Annual Meeting at PGA Frisco in November.

Established in 2007, the Fairway to Success program annually awards scholarships to students based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, community involvement and financial need. The program spans four DISD high schools – W.W. Samuell, Thomas Jefferson, Lincoln and David W. Carter – and includes introducing students to golf and the life lessons of discipline, honor and integrity that are central to the game.

“Deloitte is proud to continue to support the Fairway to Success program. We see firsthand the benefits of sponsoring and mentoring young people in the community and offer our enthusiastic support to this year’s scholarship recipients,” said Dan Berner, North Texas Managing Partner, Deloitte LLP. “I’m proud of the work our professionals have done to support these students this year. It’s our hope at Deloitte that the students continue to succeed and apply the skills they’ve learned – both in the classroom and on the golf course – to their future professional endeavors.”

During the 2023-2024 school year, 79 DISD students took part in a virtual six-week college prep program led by Deloitte professionals as well as an after-school golf program. Students learned the basics of golf from PGA professionals, and graduating seniors who qualified by participating in the program had the chance to apply for the scholarships.

Fairway to Success also includes a mentorship component to support the scholarship recipients throughout their college careers. Scholarship recipients interact with Deloitte mentors who share their insights gained from working in a professional services environment. Mentors also help students explore potential career opportunities in the business and STEM-focused fields of study.

“Year after year we are so incredibly proud of our students and the work they do. I cannot thank Fairway to Success enough for recognizing the work that these students have done as well. We know that all our students need to be successful is opportunity and support. As they graduate from high school and with their associate degree, Fairway to Success provides them with the opportunity to attend a 4-year institution through scholarships and the support they need through mentorship. I look forward to our continued collaboration for many years to come,” said Jason Jewell, Assistant Principal at W.W. Samuell High School.

“I am thrilled and more so appreciative to surpass $5,000,000 in scholarships awarded this year. It is a lot of money and every dollar is for students pursuing higher education,” said Mark Harrison, Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Texas PGA. “We would not be able to continue and grow this program without the support of everyone who believes in our Foundation and our commitment to students’ higher education. Thank you to our supporters, and congratulations to the 87 students who received a scholarship this year. I know they all have a bright future ahead.”

Three Ewing Automotive NTPGA Junior Tour Members Earn Invites to Augusta as Drive, Chip and Putt National Finalists

The Ewing Automotive NTPGA Junior Tour will have three participants at the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals at Augusta National Golf Club on April 7, 2024.The National Finals have been held the Sunday before The Masters since 2013 and has ingrained itself into the legendary traditions of the tournament and course.

Dixie Mae Crain has competed on the NTPGA Junior Tour since 2019 and has shown steady improvement over the past five years. Although her experience on the Junior Tour has undoubtedly improved her game, there is another aspect of the tour that has aided her on her journey to Augusta. “Just getting the pressure from other people being there, like competitors and all that, just having that pressure,” said Crain.

She hasn’t let the rush of being a National Finalist change her preparation however, “It’s really all about if you really get consistent. You just need to get consistent with your chipping and putting.” After seven years of participating in Drive, Chip and Putt Dixie will be competing in the age 12-13 division at Augusta and looks forward to the trip to Georgia with her dad, brother, and two former coaches.

Only five years after picking up a golf club, Ani Cooper is a Drive, Chip and Putt National Finalist as well as an accomplished golfer on the NTPGA Junior Tour. Her preparation for the National Finals included “[Practicing] chipping a lot,” and “[Spending] four times as much time on short game practice.” Although Cooper is excited and overwhelmed at the prospect of playing at Augusta, her confidence going into the Finals has not wavered.

Ani believes she can win and already has her eyes on next year’s Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals, “My goal is to get there next year,” adding “you have to absorb what happened during your time at Augusta because you’re probably not going to get a similar experience unless you come here next year.” After three years of trying to punch her ticket to Augusta, Ani has accomplished her first goal and now shifts her focus to winning the age 10-11 division Final.

The youngest of the three National Finalists is eight year old Adelyn Owen who started playing golf at just three years old. Her love of the game comes from the fact that “even if you hit a bad shot, you’ve always got the next hole to make it good. You can always improve each hole.” This is just Owen’s second time competing in Drive, Chip and Putt after not qualifying for regionals in 2022.

Her jump from not qualifying in 2022 to being a National Finalist in 2024 aligns with her golf goal of “[Trying] to improve each time I golf,” adding “hit the best I can, and in the end be happy with what I did.”

Although each of their journeys to the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals were different, Dixie Mae Crain, Ani Cooper, and Adelyn Owen’s love for golf and determination in getting to Augusta is exceptional.

This is the tenth year that an NTPGA Junior Tour member has competed in the National Finals. Make sure to catch all the action on Golf Channel Sunday morning!
